October 2014 In Brief

10083. Began implementing document management features in the MoneyBooks Data Manager module, mainly to be able to catalog and open scanned files. The files would be stored within the MoneyBooks database completely, or as links to external files. Also, by searching Twitter we discovered the NITDA competition had just been concluded, our PowerBuilder being excluded from a list of development languages for the competition that was not publicized at the website.

10105. Completed initial implementation of document management in Data Manager 2.0—storage in the database and retrieval of scanned as well as other office application documents.

10116. Did some testing of the new DM feature.

10120. Implemented the most necessary changes to the new document manager feature in MBDM.

10131. Began really using the new document manager feature of MBDM to catalog and store scanned files in the company database and it was definitely more convenient than renaming scanned files in folders.

10142. Continued improving the document manager in MBDM with more should-have features.

10212. Revised the document manager facility in MoneyBooks while incorporating more scanned documents into the company database.

10234. Completed first round of changes to the document manager by adding a second level of security (document access level), toolbar icon and the writing of images from the database to files and updating existing images in the database from files.

10245. Made more usability enhancing adjustments to the document manager in MBDM.

10271. Announced and demonstrated the document manager facility to other company staff. Henceforth all our office documents would be scanned into the database before being put in their appropriate paper files.

10293. Implemented a new change to the document manager feature: Retrieve-rows-as-needed on the list of documents.

10315. Completed revising the Employees module of MoneyBooks to take advantage of the new document manager feature of the DM module. Now it can display all documents imported into the database for an employee in DM module, including (for the first time) JPG photos rather than only BMP. Previously the Employees module could only handle BMP and RTF documents.
